Samuel J Ferry, freelance Workshop Leader, North West
Samuel is a composer, orchestrator and musical director based in the North West. He graduated with a Masters degree in Musicology from the University of Liverpool in 2010, and has worked within the music industry in a self-employed capacity since. In addition to his work as a composer and director, Samuel also has considerable teaching experience. He teaches children aged seven to 19 at the prestigious Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts as a singing teacher and musical director with the institute’s stage school for young performers, “LIPA 4:19.”
Samuel’s experience as a composer and orchestrator is wide and varied. He has written music for moving image, such as documentaries and educational videos, and has been commissioned to write several original works for Dance United. Samuel is also commissioned to orchestrate and produce backing tracks for live performance which have ranged from musical theatre productions to original pop songs for bands and other artists.
Samuel joined the Songwriting Charity in 2012 and worked closely with Nathan Timothy, Ben O’Sullivan, John Quinn and Chris Hughes to bring the art of songwriting to children and young adults across the North West. Samuel felt the experience to be rewarding and enjoyable and was delighted to be asked to participate in the charity’s work again in 2013. Samuel lives in Woolton Village, Liverpool, a stone’s throw from John Lennon’s childhood home and the parish hall where Lennon and McCartney first met. He lives with his partner and his Siamese cat Charlie.
